New Challenger in CDN Market - May 02, 2007
Itiva has the makings to be an interesting challenger in the CDN market
Itiva Networks is a new name to the CDN market where most are just familiar with Akamai (AKAM - $44.25) and Limelight Networks (IPO pending). The focus is on HD-quality video streaming services (think Joost-like customers). The company raised $7mn earlier this month and since the service is now up and running, we will quickly find out how much demand exists versus how much demand they are hoping to create and video quality becomes more important across the range of content sites. They have patent-pending technology centered on "core network saturation by making clever use servers, proxies, and peers." It's gutsy to mention patents when Akamai is fairly lawsuit happy - although it might be fine with just it's suit against Limelight right now. Checkout this link to read the background of the board members added...from: Universal Pictures, Apple, HP; it seems they are in fact taking the broad approach that they should and that should serve them well as the market moves toward where Itiva has put the goal.
